Croque Monsieur
A lovely French version of a special toasted ham and cheese sandwich. A tasty snack for those occasions when you are alone and don't want to cook a complete meal.
INGREADIENT
- 2 slices white bread buttered large
- 50 g gruyere cheese
- 3 slices ham (deli) thinly sliced
- 10 g butter melted
- 3 tbs parmesan cheese grated
- 1/2 tsp salt and pepper
Direction
- Spread half the grated Gruyère on one buttered slice of bread. Cover with ham.
- Place remainder of the Gruyère cheese on top of the ham. Add salt and pepper.
- Place second slice of buttered bread on top, and press together firmly. Remove crusts with a sharp knife.
- Brush melted butter on the top side of the sandwich, sprinkle with half the Parmesan and press firmly into place.
- Toast sandwich under grill until golden.
- Turn sandwich over, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with the remainder of the Parmesan, and grill the second side until golden.
- Cut neatly into quarters with a sharp knife. Serve warm garnished with a sprig of parsley.
